Biography

Louisa Grantz, born and raised in Hamburg, discovered her love for music and the piano at an early age. She began piano lessons at the age of five under the guidance of Ivone Bambirra, who recognised her talent and nurtured it for over a decade.

At the age of 15, Louisa received a music scholarship and spent a year at Dean Close School in Cheltenham, England, where she received intensive training in piano, violin and viola. Under the guidance of members of the Carducci Quartet, she developed her chamber music skills and prepared for competitions.

​

She went on to specialise in piano performance, studying at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, which she completed with distinction. She studied with distinguished musicians including Penelope Roskell, Gabriele Baldocci, Sergio De Simone and Peter Tuite, and continues to be mentored by Steinway Artist

Alisdair Hogarth.

Louisa has always been curious about how music affects the brain and shapes the way we think, feel and experience the world. This curiosity brought her to the MSc in Music, Mind & Brain at Goldsmiths, University of London, with a focus on music neuroscience and music psychology. Her research informs her teaching and gives her a deeper understanding of how people learn and experience music.

Throughout her career, Louisa has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the NDR Jugendsinfonieorchester, the Felix-Mendelssohn-Jugendsinfonieorchester, the Hamburger Camerata Jugendprojekte, the Saitenspiel Jugendorchester and The Young ClassX, the renowned music project of the Otto Group.

Her concert tours have taken her to significant venues worldwide, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Rudolfinum-Dvořák Hall in Prague, BMW World Munich, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Thalia Theater and

Cheltenham Town Hall.

Particular highlights include a performance at Bellevue Palace in Berlin before Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, a prize-winners' concert for child protection before Auma Obama, and the rare opportunity to perform at the Elbphilharmonie for renowned acoustic engineer Yasuhisa Toyota.

 

Her international masterclasses include the Oberstdorfer Musiksommer with Barbara Westphal, Naturalmente Pianoforte with Sergio De Simone, the Lunigiana Festival with Gabriele Baldocci and Virtuoso & Belcanto with Till Fellner and Péter Nagy.

​

Among the highlights of her career are the 1st Prize with the maximum score of 25 points at the Bundeswettbewerb Jugend musiziert in piano, and the prestigious Walter and Charlotte Hamel Foundation scholarship. She was also invited by Steinway for the promotion of piano accompaniment and took part in a CD recording and interview for North German

Radio NDR.

Louisa's commitment to music education extends well beyond private teaching. She taught with The Young ClassX, the Hamburg initiative of the Otto Group that provides children with free access to classical music, and spent two years as an Ambassador and returning Ambassador of the Benedetti Foundation, a UK charity dedicated to music education.

​

Today Louisa Grantz lives and works in her hometown of Hamburg as a pianist, music researcher and music educator.
