Teaching Philosophy

Teaching is and has always been my passion. Everything my teachers and professors passed on to me, I try to pass on to my students. I have been teaching students of all ages, levels and backgrounds for over a decade now (which still feels a little crazy!) and I absolutely love it.

Every student is different, and that is exactly what I love about teaching. Whether it is exams, competitions or simply the joy of playing, I follow each student's goals and wishes. I have successfully guided many students through the ABRSM exam system and am proud of a 100% pass rate. I also love supporting students in competitions like Jugend musiziert, which I know well from my own years of experience.

Piano lessons with me go far beyond learning pieces. I also introduce my students to music theory, ear training, improvisation and music history, because I believe a complete musical picture really matters. How you practise matters just as much as how often you practise. Learning to structure a session, listen to yourself and develop your own musical instinct are skills I love building together with my students. I also use a sight-reading tool to support independent practice between lessons.

My roots are in classical music but I teach pop and other styles just as happily, depending on what inspires my students. I have experience teaching very young children and teach from age 4, subject to an initial assessment.

I am committed to supporting music education for children. I taught with The Young ClassX, a Hamburg initiative of the Otto Group that gives children free access to classical music, and spent two years as an Ambassador and returning Ambassador of the Benedetti Foundation, a UK charity dedicated to music education. Music has filled my life with so much joy and fun, and opened doors to wonderful opportunities, communities and achievements.

I always enjoy receiving little videos or messages from parents showing how much their children enjoy their lessons. Witnessing the impact music can have on someone's life never gets old, and I feel very lucky to call this my job.
